1. Headline... "ARGUS Financial Software: How to Use the Web." As a leading software provider for the real estate industry, ARGUS Financial Software has developed an interactive web site to sell and support its family of analytical programs. *Click the Headline at PikeNet.* 2. New and Notable... Estates Gazette Interactive, covering the UK property market, has created a wonderful subscription service (250 English pounds per year) which features news, research comparable sales and resource links. It's a vivid demonstration of how a print publication can use the web to expand its presence. Carlsberg Management, based in California, provides residential property management services in 18 states. The Kravco Company, shopping center developers and managers based in Pennsylvania, include pictures, site plans and maps for many of its developments. The RealWorks Real Estate Forum provides a wide variety of appraisal resources including links to the Appraisal Institutes in the US and Canada which it hosts. Forest City Enterprises, a national owner and developer, emphasizes projects of its Land Division with 15,000 acres in ten states. The Yarmouth Group, investment advisers, has recently launched a trial version of its site which should be complete in 6 weeks. eTours Online is a listing and resource service that provides information on office space in association with the San Francisco BOMA chapter. TCN (The Commercial Network) has upgraded its site, linked it with the LoopNet listing service and created a private intranet for its members. *Find these sites by entering a complete or partial word in the text search box on the home page.* 3. Oops Bigtime... On Friday, August 2, the Wall Street Journal reported that National Association of Realtors web site, RIN (Realtors Information Network) was "has run out of it $12.9 million in funding and is on the verge of collapse." Seems it was victim of "overly ambitious goals, some free-spending ways and unexpected changes in technology." 4. PikeNet Presentations... I will be discussing commercial real estate and the Internet at several conferences this fall: IREM on September 4 in San Francisco, at NACORE on October 7 in Tampa, and at CRE on November 12 in San Francisco. 5. AOL Users... Because PikeNet now uses tables on the home page, you must upgrade to AOL 3.0 to see the page correctly. 6. Power Outage... PikeNet did not go down during the power outage on Saturday August 10, but the outage has apparently done funny things to the Internet. A few readers reported that they were unable to access PikeNet at the same time that other persons were not experiencing difficulties. If you are still unable to hit PikeNet, please send me e-mail. 7. Subscribing and Canceling... If you do not want to receive this Dispatch, please reply with "cancel" in the Message field to remove your name. If you know a person who would like to be added to this list, please send me an e-mail with the word "subscribe." Please include your name and company. --Peter Pike / |
