Road Warriors, Fight Back! ...
Block Killer E-mail Messages

Will we eliminate big e-brochures from zapping road warriors on slow dialup connections? In your dreams. So go on the offensive. Several readers wrote with intriguing ideas... Jack Peckham of the Real Estate Cyberspace Society sends a recent CyberTip about a nifty utility called Email Remover eremover.bizhosting.com that lets you check your e-mail remotely. You can either read the subject line only or preview the e-mail message, and you'll always see the file size so you can avoid downloading mammoth files. ... I've posted step-by-step directions in the E-mail section of PikeNet's Web Resources (left-hand column of home page).

Or maybe you can do it yourself. Maybe... Bill Dougherty at Informix writes, "Many e-mail systems will allow you to leave attachments of a certain size or larger on the mail server to be downloaded on demand." ... And Jonathan Resendez at Stat Communications & Internet, San Carlos, CA, suggests selecting the "leave mail on server" option and limiting the file size to download only 100 KB. He says that this works in Eudora and Outlook. ... I think that Jonathan is right, and, if there's a brave enough soul out there to send me step-by-step directions for these programs, I'll post them in my E-mail section... I gave up trying after thirty minutes! Thanks, Bill. I love Microsoft. :-)
