Check Out Your Commute -- on the Web

PikeNet 2000 / Apr 5-7, 2000 / San Francisco

Real-Time Traffic Reports... Live in Seattle? Want to check out your morning commute? Check out www.wsdot.wa.gov/PugetSoundTraffic. You'll see a graphical representation of the Seattle freeway grid colored from green, "Wide Open," to black, "Stop and Go." Want to see a picture of your freeway? Click the Camera icon at the top of the screen and you'll see links to dozens of freeway cameras with pictures updated every minute and a half. (It was raining when I checked out the 405.) ... Here is a link to the Traffic category at PikeNet, which connects to some major metros, like Phoenix, Houston and Paris. If you have a favorite traffic site that is not here, send e-mail to me.

Although you won't find as much local detail, MapQuest now offers Real-Time Traffic Information for more than 40 metros in the U.S. This looks like the same kind of information that traffic reporters read over the radio and TV. In fact, MapQuest says that you'll see it at their web site first. ... I've posted step-by-step instructions in the Maps and Directions section of PikeNet's Web Resources (left-hand column of home page).
